Last week we were talking about Point Of View, which I enjoyed a lot. . They are three types of POV which are : First person,Second person and Third person POV. In the extracts below would you ladies please comment on each of them stating the type of POV and why you are saying so. Thank you!!
Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises.
“I could picture it. I have a habit of imagining the conversations between my friends. We went out to the Cafe Napolitain to have an aperitif and watch the evening crowd on the Boulevard.”

In the first extract, it is in the first person because of the use of the word ”I”. The writer is talking of past experiences. In the second extract the POV is in the second person as the ”speaker” seems to be addressing someone else. For the third extract we have the POV set in the third person as the speaker is talking about other people and not to them.

I think that the first extract is in the second person because he has “A habit of imagining the conversations between my friends.” Which means that he is not exactly in the presence of his friends because of the word IMAGINE. Secondly I think the Doctor Seuss extract is in the first person, I am assuming this because it is like he is directly talking someone,”You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”Then finally I presume that the third extract is quite obvious because this extract is clearly telling the story from a different angle. By the use of the language you can tell that the person telling the story is not necessarily involved or included in it,” Wilbur never forgot Charlotte……She was in a class by herself.”

The first extract is in the first person POV because the writer uses the word ‘l’. This shows us that he was there when these events were happening.
The second extract is in the second person POV because the witter uses the word ‘you’. This shows us that he is talking to someone and he knows a lot about this person.
The third extract is in the third person POV because the writer is acting as the narrator, describing how Wilbur felt about Charlotee .

in the first extract, it is the first person because of the fact that they used “l” and “we went out to” which shows us that the person was there during that time. in the second extract, its the second person because of the word “you have…” which also shows us that he is addressing this “speech” to someone although it sounds like he is encouraging someone. in the third extract, the writer sounds like they are telling someone a story like as if they are a narrator in a play because the writer said ” she was in a class..”
