“Ways to Live Forever” a book written by Sally Nicholls. This happens to be my favorite book of all time! The book is about a boy named Sam fighting Leukemia (Cancer to the blood), and he finds a friend named Felix. Together they try and live out their goals before they both die.
“Things I Want to Happen After I die: You’re allowed to be sad, but you’re not allowed to be too sad. If you’re always sad when you think about me, then how can you remember me?”
[If you all had to write two more sentences in this paragraph, what would they be?]
“You need to smile or laugh because of the times that I was here, enjoy the memories of moments you had with me don’t cry because it’s over.”
“It was incredible making those memories, don’t ruin them by being too sad…”
Was a very good extract, Thank you Jess. Found it quite hard to think of what sentences to add though.

I think you did a good job! Remember, style imitation is often an important part of Paper 1, so it’s always best to challenge ourselves with these kinds of limited exercises!

Nice one Jess. It makes one think about life

Great, Tsepile! I like how you’ve continued the very hopeful tone in a very succinct way!

“Think about the good times that we’ve spent together, I am sure that will make you smile when you think about me.”
I also found it hard to come up with the sentence because I wasnt sure of the genre of the book.
Thanks Jess

A good effort, nevertheless! Even the use of the future tense is a subtle, but effective tool here, don’t you think?

I like the nostalgic effect it has on the reader’s mind. It’s like a getaway to an urban, fantastical place, which is exciting and adventurous. I like it!

Very good! Remember to look for the “how” of the effect. It helps to support your analysis to have “evidence”. It also helps with fluency in your commentary, as effects are often woven together with different parts of the language, which can help you move from one observation to the next with ease.

The writers purpose in this passage was to clearly show us that there is a brighter side to everything in life. Even though the boy in the passage is very close to death he shows us that we must live life to the fullest no matter what circumstances we are in or how much time we have to live.

Good, Rudo! How would you continue this piece? How could you imitate the “carpe diem” sentiment here?

I would say
Smile. Smile forever, behind your smile you can be troubled. But a smile is your armor of steel.

Remember me, but not too much, because your smile will fade, just like mine. Don’t feel lonely, because I will always be there, even though you won’t see me.
